Lovern, 49, has been with the Piedmont Healthcare system since 2002, most recently as executive VP and chief administrative officer for the system.
“Piedmont Atlanta is the largest of our hospitals and, in many ways, set the groundwork for the reputation Piedmont has today when it opened over 100 years ago,” Lovern said in a news release. “I am proud to accept this new role within the organization.”
“We're pleased to have Ed join our team as chief operating officer,” Piedmont Atlanta Hospital's president and CEO, Les Donahue, said in the release. “He has a proven track record in hospital administration and is known for executing his vision for an organization successfully.”
The appointment was effective July 29.
Prior to joining Piedmont, Lovern was Washington bureau chief for Modern Healthcare, starting in 2000.
