The California HealthCare Foundation, a not-for-profit philanthropic organization that provides $40 million in grants for state programs to promote the implementation of better quality and greater access to public healthcare, has named Dr. Sandra Hernandez its next president and CEO.
Hernandez is scheduled to take over the position beginning Jan. 2, 2014, and will succeed founding President and CEO Dr. Mark D. Smith, who announced that he was stepping down from the foundation, which also publishes iHealthBeat.
“Passing the baton to Sandra Hernandez gives me great pleasure,” Smith said in a news release. “I have admired her work both from afar and up close at San Francisco General Hospital, where we have both practiced medicine together for many years. I know she will capably lead the foundation into the future.”
