Hologic's former CEO Jack Cumming has once again been named president and CEO of the Bedford, Mass., developer, manufacturer and supplier of diagnostic and medical imaging products for women's health.
He replaces Robert Cascella, who is leaving Hologic for personal reasons but will continue to serve as an adviser to the company through the end of November. Cumming previously served as CEO in 2001-09, as well as chairman in 2002-07 and 2008-11. Their ages were not immediately available.
“We are fortunate to have a proven leader of Jack's caliber as our new CEO,” David LaVance, Hologic's board chairman, said in a release. “Jack's intimate knowledge of the company, strategic expertise and proven track record of increasing revenues and creating shareholder value make him uniquely qualified to lead Hologic.”
According to LaVance, Cumming will assess Hologic's businesses, evaluate its capital allocation and capital return policies, increase company transparency, and review the integration of its newly acquired subsidiary. In July 2012, Hologic completed the nearly $3.8 billion acquisition of San Diego's Gen-Probe, a maker of clinical diagnostic, blood screening, transplant and research products.
