HCA, the Nashville-based hospital giant, is buying three hospitals in Florida from Iasis Healthcare, marking the smaller chain's exit from the state.
HCA West Florida said it would purchase 307-bed Palms of Pasadena Hospital, St. Petersburg; 139-bed Memorial Hospital of Tampa, and 200-bed Town & Country Hospital, also of Tampa, for undisclosed terms.
In a news release, Carl Whitmer, president and CEO of investor-owned Iasis, pointed to “ongoing changes in the healthcare industry” that have led the Franklin, Tenn.-based company to re-evaluate its markets.
HCA has a heavy presence in Florida, with 38 hospitals in the state. The company is also one of three remaining system vying for 198-bed Citrus Memorial Health System, Inverness.
The transaction requires regulatory approval and is expected to close at the end of the year, according to the release.
