Glassroth named dean of clinical affairs at UChicago

The University of Chicago has named Dr. Jeffrey Glassroth professor and dean of clinical affairs and head of the faculty practice plan.

Effective July 8, Glassroth, 64, works with the dean of the biological sciences division, the clinical department chairs and faculty, president of the medical center and hospital administration to prepare for healthcare reform, enhance off-campus clinical practices, and further engage faculty in patient care, research and education. Glassroth, a pulmonologist, will also continue to practice medicine.

Glassroth joins the University of Chicago from another local educational institution—Northwestern University—where he was a professor of medicine and former president and CEO of the faculty practice. He also served as interim dean of the university's Feinberg School of Medicine from Jan. 1 to Sept. 1, 2011.

“Jeff Glassroth has the ideal mix of skills and experience for this position,” Dr. Kenneth Polonsky, executive VP for medical affairs and the University of Chicago and dean of the biological sciences division and Pritzker School of Medicine, said in a news release. “He has impressive credentials as a physician and scientist, combined with a strong track record in building clinical practices and adjusting to a continuously shifting health care environment. He is well versed in the region's marketplace and attuned to community needs.”
