Scripps names Steinhubl director of digital medicine

Dr. Steven Steinhubl has joined Scripps Health as director of its digital medicine program.

Steinhubl, 53, will oversee the scientific evaluation and clinical validation of mobile health devices and applications through the Scripps Translational Science Institute, sponsored by the National Institutes of Health.

“There is incredible opportunity to use (mobile health) technology to improve medical outcomes, boost the quality of patients' lives and create savings within the healthcare system,” Steinhubl said in a release.

Before joining Scripps Health and STSI on July 1, Steinhubl, a cardiologist, clinical researcher and former pharmaceutical company executive, most recently served as director of cardiovascular wellness and a clinician-scientist at the Geisinger Health System based in Danville, Penn.

“Throughout Dr. Steinhubl's distinguished career, across the board in academics and the life science industry, he has displayed innovative and pioneering work, along with an ability to find synergy among different technologies,” STSI Director Dr. Eric Topol said in the release. “Those are among the many reasons we recruited him.”
