Four physician informaticists and the head of a statewide health information exchange organization have won the 14th annual AMDIS Awards for outstanding achievement in applied medical informatics.

Winners had success beyond meaningful use
These awards from the Association of Medical Directors of Information Systems will be presented this week at the 22nd annual AMDIS Physician-Computer Connection Symposium in Ojai, Calif. The winners are Dr. Davis Lee, PIH Health, Whittier, Calif.; Dr. Ryun Harper, St. Francis Medical Center, Lynwood, Calif.; Arun Mathews, Medical Center Health System, Odessa, Texas; Dr. Robert White, ABQ Health Partners, Albuquerque; and Scott Carrell, Idaho Health Data Exchange, Boise.
The award jurors cited the winners' success in leveraging federal meaningful-use targets; using health information technology to meet private sector pay-for-performance metrics; and promoting health information exchange.
“Doing meaningful use by itself is nothing,” says AMDIS President Dr. William Bria. “The fact that they succeeded in being able to convince, coerce and cajole others to achieve and improve patient care—that is medical leadership. It's a big difference.”
