Catholic Health Services names Verzi COO

Catholic Health Services in Rockville Centre, N.Y., has appointed Dennis Verzi to be the system's first COO.

Verzi will begin his new role on July 1, the same day that Dr. Alan Guerci will take over as president and CEO of Catholic Health Services. Verzi's age was not immediately available.

“In collaboration with the entity's (executive) VPs and chief administrative officers, Dennis will be responsible for the oversight of our six hospitals. He will also address quality, strategic medical staff relations and overall operations at each,” Guerci said in a news release. “He embodies Catholic Health Services' faith-based mission and enjoys the respect of everyone who knows him.”

Verzi most recently served as executive VP and chief administrative officer of St. Catherine of Siena Medical Center in Smithtown, N.Y., and he was interim executive VP, president and CEO for Good Samaritan Hospital Medical Center in West Islip, N.Y., St. Charles Hospital in Port Jefferson, N.Y., and St. Catherine of Siena.

Catholic Health Services has six acute-care hospitals, three nursing homes and a home health agency.
