Cancer Treatment Centers of America names Gerard van Grinsven president and CEO, and other moves

Dr. Thomas Lee, network president for Boston-based Partners HealthCare system and CEO of Partners Community Healthcare, will join Press Ganey on July 1 as chief medical officer, a new position at the company. Lee is a practicing cardiologist and co-chair of the Committee for Performance Measures of the National Committee for Quality Assurance. As CEO of Partners Community Healthcare since 2006 and previously its CMO since its inception in 1995, he oversaw quality-improvement programs for its 4,500 physicians and 1.5 million patients. His age was not provided.

Gerard van Grinsven was named president and CEO of Chicago-based Cancer Treatment Centers of America. Van Grinsven resigned as president and CEO of Henry Ford West Bloomfield Hospital, effective June 1, and takes leadership of the national network of cancer hospitals July 1. He succeeds Stephen Bonner, president and CEO since 1999, who will assume the new role of executive chairman. Van Grinsven joined Detroit-based Henry Ford Health System in 2006 to oversee the launch of the West Bloomfield hospital, which opened in March 2009. Before that, he was an executive with the Ritz-Carlton Hotel Co.

Joseph Flanagan will join Chicago-based Accretive Health as its COO at the end of May. Flanagan, 41, comes to Accretive Health from Applied Materials, Northlake, Ill., where he was senior VP of worldwide operations and supply chain, though he has spent most of his career in various leadership roles at General Electric Co. Flanagan will report to Stephen Schuckenbrock, who joined Accretive last month from Dell Services.

Phoenix-based SharedClarity, a joint venture formed by health system Dignity Health and insurer UnitedHealthcare, added three executives: Alex Brown, 35, as VP of operations; Michael Georgulis Jr., 60, as the new VP of strategic sourcing; and Jan Tankersley, 52, as VP of sales and marketing. Brown, who will be in charge of customer and supplier on-boarding and customer service operations, comes to SharedClarity from MedAssets, where he was director of operations. Georgulis most recently held the same title for Premier health alliance. Tankersley was marketing director for Novation.
