To determine the ninth annual ranking of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives in Healthcare, Modern Healthcare and sister publication Modern Physician issued a call for nominations on Nov. 12, 2012. Through Dec. 13, readers submitted nominations on Modern Physician and Modern Healthcare's websites.
More than 3,800 nominations were received, compared with 2,700 in the previous year. The final ballot, based on the names receiving the most nominations, was then posted online. From Dec. 31, 2012, through Feb. 8, readers could submit their votes for the candidates they believed should make the final ranking of the 50 Most Influential Physician Executives. A total of 58,000 ballots were cast, up more than 200% from the previous year.
As in previous years, readers' votes counted for 50% of the outcome. The other 50% is based on the expert opinions of senior editors at Modern Healthcare and Modern Physician. This year, the 50 Most Influential Physicians in Healthcare is sponsored by Cejka Executive Search, a healthcare executive search and physician staffing firm based in St. Louis. Per editorial policy, sponsors are not involved in the nomination process or judging to determine the final ranking.
