Personal information belonging to more than 7,400 veterans in South Carolina may have been compromised when a laptop was stolen in February from the William Jennings Bryan Dorn VA Medical Center in Columbia, S.C.
According to a letter from the medical center, a computer that was part of a pulmonary function testing medical device was reported missing from the respiratory therapy department on Feb. 11. That computer contained information belonging to the veterans who had received testing on that machine. For each patient, data included full name, last four digits of the Social Security number, age, race, weight and study test results. For some, a date of birth was also included.
