The Oklahoma State Board of Medical Licensure and Supervision will now include QR (quick response) codes on all newly issued or renewed licenses of physicians and other medical professionals.
QR codes are black and white square boxes that can be scanned to access information. By including these on medical licenses, medical professionals will be able to quickly check in at training events, clinics and hospitals, while verifying their identity.
“Law enforcement or emergency medical personnel establishing an incident command system at the scene of an accident or emergency will be able to immediately identify and confirm that the Good Samaritan offering assistance is indeed a licensed medical doctor,” Reji Varghese, the board's deputy executive director, said in a news release.
The codes will also provide access to physicians' information pages from the board's website, which include data such as education, medical specialty and board certification, office address, telephone and office hours, hospital privileges, insurance participation and board status.
The medical board is partnering with OK.gov, the official website of Oklahoma, to provide the online service.
