Community Leadership Award nominations sought

Healthcare attracts people who are concerned with making their communities better places to live. By choosing healthcare as a profession, their life's work becomes a way to help those around them live better, longer and happier lives.

It's no surprise, then, that many people who succeed in healthcare and rise to the executive ranks also take their community service ethic to the next level. Helping people where they work feels so good and makes such a difference that bringing those efforts to the community at large can be a natural evolution.

In recognition of those altruistic efforts, Modern Healthcare created the Community Leadership Award. The award honors top healthcare executives for their work outside of the organizations and corporations they lead to improve the health and well-being of their communities.

Nominations for Modern Healthcare's second annual Community Leadership Award are now open. The submission deadline is June 7. To be eligible for the award, a nominee must be a CEO, president, administrator or otherwise top executive of a healthcare organization or corporation from any sector of the industry. Also, the outside volunteer work must have occurred within the past 24 months.

To participate, a nominee's organization or corporation must submit a letter explaining how the nominee excels at these three criteria: how much an executive's community service efforts go beyond their core job responsibilities; the voluntary nature of the work outside the organization or corporation; and the demonstrated positive impact of the work on the community. A resume/bio/CV and supporting documentation also is required. Supporting documentation may include letters of recommendation and digital content such as photos, videos and audio files. Candidates may not nominate themselves.

Modern Healthcare will select as many as 10 finalists from the pool of applicants we receive. The finalists and their submissions will be posted on ModernHealthcare.com on Aug. 5. At that time, readers will be able to vote through Sept. 20 for their choice among the nominees. One winner and several honorable mentions will be selected, with 50% of the outcome based on reader votes and the other 50% based on an analysis by Modern Healthcare editors. Modern Healthcare reserves the right to resolve all voting irregularities and to make the final determination of the winner and honorable mentions. Modern Healthcare will profile the winner and honorable mentions in a special section of the Nov. 18 issue.
