Banner Good Samaritan Medical Center in Phoenix has named Dr. Steve Narang its CEO.
Narang, 41, is a pediatric physician, and has served as chief medical officer of Cardon Children's Medical Center (Mesa, Ariz.) since 2011. He will replace Larry Volkmar, who plans to step down April 25.
Though Narang's appointment does not officially become effective until April 26, Kathy Bollinger, president of Banner Health Arizona West Region, said that Narang and Volkmar will be working together over the coming weeks. “The collaboration between these two Banner leaders will ensure a smooth transition,” she said in a release.
“In his experience as a physician, teacher, medical director and, most recently, as chief medical officer at Cardon Children's Medical Center, Dr. Narang has amply demonstrated leadership attributes that are critical to Banner's future as a leading health system in the nation,” Bollinger said.
Last November, Volkmar was named as a finalist for the top leadership position at Parkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas. Parkland recently announced it would expand its search.
