Dr. Eric Dickson was named to replace John O'Brien as president and CEO of UMass Memorial Health Care, effective Feb. 25. Dickson, 46, is president of 1,060-physician UMass Memorial Medical Group and senior associate dean at the University of Massachusetts Medical School. O'Brien, 62, announced last March that he intended to retire this year. He will remain with the system for several weeks to help with the transition. … Alex Mendez was given a more expansive role and a new title at Mount Sinai Medical Center in Miami Beach, Fla. Mendez, who joined the hospital in 2001 as senior VP and CFO, is now executive VP of operations and CFO. Mendez, 44, was one of Modern Healthcare's Up & Comers in 2007. Before joining Mount Sinai, he worked for HCA's Kendall Regional Medical Center in Miami and then Cedars Medical Center, which HCA sold to the University of Miami in 2007. … ProMedica named Rose Ann Laureto CIO for the Toledo, Ohio-based not-for-profit system. Laureto, 56, is the former CIO at UNC Health Care, Chapel Hill, N.C. At ProMedica, she replaces Dave Selman. … Robert Beehler, president and CEO of San Joaquin Community Hospital in Bakersfield, Calif., has assumed a new position on a new market development team for the hospital's parent, Adventist Health. Beehler, who has led the Bakersfield hospital since 2003, will focus on mergers and acquisitions. Scott Reiner, the company's executive VP and COO, will serve as interim CEO at San Joaquin Community Hospital. The executives' ages were not provided. … Providence Holy Cross Medical Center, Mission Hills, Calif., named Dr. Bernard Klein the hospital's CEO. Klein had been serving as interim CEO since September. Klein, 52, previously was the hospital's chief medical officer. He replaces Larry Bowe, who left for a regional position with the Southern California division of Providence Health & Services. … Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center, Boston, named Nancy Formella COO. Formella, 59, a registered nurse, most recently served as executive adviser to the Dartmouth-Hitchcock boards of trustees. She is a former president of Mary Hitchcock Memorial Hospital and co-president of the Dartmouth-Hitchcock hospital in Lebanon, N.H. Marsha Maurer, who has served as interim COO for the past year, will return to her role as senior VP of patient-care services and chief nursing officer.
