Two longtime healthcare informaticists, Joyce Sensmeier and Dr. Walter Suarez, have been named to the advisory council of Health Level Seven, the Ann Arbor, Mich.-based standards development organization has announced.
Both appointments are for two-year terms.
Sensmeier, a registered nurse, is VP of informatics at the Chicago-based Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society. Suarez is director of health IT strategy for Oakland, Calif.-based Kaiser Permanente.
“Ms. Sensmeier provides a unique perspective to the council with leadership roles in HIMSS and Integrating the Healthcare Enterprise (IHE) as well as her expertise in nursing informatics,” HL7 CEO Dr. Charles Jaffe said in a news release (PDF). “Dr. Suarez brings a wealth of national and international experience, including serving as a member of the National Committee on Vital and Health Statistics and as a member of HIT Standards Committee of the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.”
