Dr. Denton Cooley, Sister M. Maurita Sengelaub and Donald Wegmiller have been chosen as the latest inductees into Modern Healthcare's Health Care Hall of Fame.
Cooley, 92, is a pioneer in heart surgery who performed the first successful human heart transplant in 1968. A year later, he performed the first successful implantation of an artificial heart as a bridge before transplantation. Cooley was the founder of the Texas Heart Institute at St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital in Houston.
