James Burkhart will become president and CEO of Tampa (Fla.) General Hospital, replacing retiring President and CEO Ron Hytoff.
Burkhart, 58, currently president and CEO of Shands Jacksonville (Fla.) Medical Center, will start March 4, according to a news release (PDF).
Burkhart has held his current post at Shands Jacksonville since 2010. He joined Shands Jacksonville, a not-for-profit teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Florida Health Science Center–Jacksonville, as president and administrator in 2003.
Hytoff, 67, announced his retirement in June. He has been CEO at not-for-profit Tampa General since February 2000. Previously, he was COO at Tampa General for three years.
Tampa General is the primary teaching hospital for the USF Health Morsani College of Medicine, according to the release.
