NorthShore University HealthSystem, Evanston, Ill., has joined the Mayo Clinic Care Network, a clinical collaborative organized by Mayo Clinic, Rochester, Minn.
The agreement gives NorthShore patients access to Mayo Clinic resources and providers, according to a Mayo Clinic news release. The two systems already had informal clinical ties, and no ownership will change as a result of the agreement.
This is Mayo Clinic's ninth such agreement, Dr. John Noseworthy, Mayo's president and CEO, said in an interview. The agreement will focus on patients with complex diseases. Noseworthy noted that NorthShore doctors will gain access to AskMayoExpert, its electronic database for physicians to share medical knowledge. The agreement with NorthShore gives Mayo its first such presence in the Chicago-area market, and because it's an exclusive arrangement, it's only such presence, Noseworthy said.
