Wholesale prices for acute-care hospital services saw their highest one-month spike since October 2009, climbing 1.7% in August, according to preliminary figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics' Produce Price Index. Last month's jump followed a 0.2% increase in July. In August 2011, acute-care hospital wholesale prices rose 0.2%. The index climbed 1.8% in October 2009.
For the year that ended in August, acute-care hospital wholesale prices increased 3.8%, the preliminary figures show, compared with 2.3% the prior year.
