The technology, in most cases, already exists—but unfortunately it is spread among many “silos” of isolated special interests and departments fighting for their piece of the budget.
Some departments, such as food service, are not even recognized as a vital part of the patient's treatment and thus relegated to seeking its own technology solution—a solution which will forever, it seems, remain in a silo.
