Lee Memorial Health System, Fort Myers, Fla., has partnered with newly formed physician group Inpatient Specialists of Southwest Florida to provide hospitalist services at its four hospitals.
The system previously worked with six competing hospitalist groups but decided to streamline its services to improve quality outcomes, patient experience and physician satisfaction, said Dr. Scott Nygaard, chief medical officer.
"Yes, we had hospitalists, but we didn't have the right structure," he said in an interview. "We now have a sole group that we can work with and develop those performance targets."
He noted that the contract includes pay-for-performance clauses, but said plans to move to an accountable care organization or other risk-based payment model are "to be determined."
