Piedmont Healthcare, Atlanta, has named Dr. Patrick Battey, the chairman of its board of directors, interim CEO. Battey, a vascular surgeon, will take over the CEO duties of R. Timothy Stack, who died July 30. In addition to his role as chairman, Battey, whose age was unavailable, has served as president of the Piedmont Atlanta Hospital medical staff. Greg Hurst, Piedmont's president of finance and development, will become interim president and COO. Hurst had been acting as interim CEO since Stack went on medical leave in June. … Alexian Brothers Health System, Arlington Heights, Ill., has appointed Paul Belter CFO. Belter replaces James Sances, who retired after 31 years with the system, according to a news release. Belter, 47, moves on from the regional VP and CFO post at Provena Mercy Medical Center in Chicago. Alexian was purchased this year by St. Louis-based Ascension Health, the largest Catholic healthcare group in the country.

Bridgeport (Conn.) Hospital named Dr. Michael Ivy senior VP for medical affairs and chief medical officer, effective Oct. 1. Ivy, whose age was unavailable, will replace Dr. Bruce McDonald, who is retiring at the end of September after 32 years with Bridgeport, including 26 years as CMO, according to a news release. Ivy has been Bridgeport's VP for performance and risk management since 2007. … Temple University Hospital named John Kastanis, who has been serving as interim chief executive, to the permanent position of president and CEO. Kastanis was appointed interim CEO in December after Sandra Gomberg stepped down from the role. Kastanis, whose appointment is effective immediately, previously was president and CEO of the Hospital for Joint Diseases Orthopaedic Institute in New York. In his new role, Kastanis will oversee the hospital's strategic direction, operations and finances, according to a news release. … LifePoint Hospitals, Brentwood, Tenn., named Roxana Pool chief nursing officer of the company's Delta division, which includes seven hospitals in North Carolina, Tennessee and Virginia. Pool, whose age was unavailable, previously served as interim CEO of LifePoint's Hillside Hospital in Pulaski, Tenn. She replaces Susan Peach, who was named CEO of LifePoint's HighPoint Health System. … Opelousas (La.) General Health System has named Mark Marley president and CEO, effective Aug. 31. Marley replaces Gary Keller, who is retiring Oct. 3 after a transition period. Marley, whose age was unavailable at deadline, previously held the CEO role at Natchitoches (La.) Regional Medical Center, part of Christus Health.
Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, Calif., named Michael Rembis CEO. Rembis, 58, starts in mid-September. He's currently the CEO at Hollywood Presbyterian Medical Center in Los Angeles. He replaces Barry Wolfman, who took the CEO and managing director post at his alma mater, George Washington University Hospital, Washington. Officials at St. Joseph conducted a national search before selecting Rembis. Kerry Carmody, COO for the hospital's parent, the Southern California branch of Providence Health & Services, had been serving as interim CEO since Wolfman's departure in the spring. … Parkland Health & Hospital System, Dallas, named Robert Smith interim CEO. He will take over that role from Dr. Thomas Royer, whose contract expires at the end of the month. Smith has overseen multistate regions for Universal Health Services, King of Prussia, Pa., and Dallas-based Tenet Healthcare Corp. and has focused on “bringing more efficiency and discipline to those organizations,” according to a Parkland news release. He is scheduled to start in mid-September. Ages for the two execs were not available from Parkland. … Coastal Carolina Hospital, Hardeeville, S.C., named Bradley Talbert CEO. Talbert, 34, replaces William Masterton, who was promoted to CEO of Piedmont Medical Center, Rock Hill, S.C. Both hospitals are owned by Tenet Healthcare Corp., Dallas. Talbert previously served as COO of Hilton Head (S.C.) Hospital, another Tenet facility. He also has held CEO roles at Kindred Hospital, Charleston, S.C., and Select Specialty Hospital, Memphis, Tenn. … St. Mary Medical Center, Langhorne, Pa., appointed Jeffrey Yarmel executive VP and COO. Yarmel, whose age was not provided, served as senior executive VP and COO at Cooper Health System, Camden, N.J. Yarmel also served as CEO at Warminster (Pa.) Hospital, which was converted to an ambulatory facility in 2007.
Seattle Children's Hospital promoted Wes Wright to senior VP and CIO from his current position of VP and chief technology officer. Before arriving at Children's, he served as executive director of Scripps Health in San Diego. He also spent 20 years in the Air Force in various roles, including health services administrator. Wright, 47, replaces Drexel DeFord, who announced his departure in June. DeFord, chairman of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, is now the CIO at Steward Health Care, Boston.
