Tenet Healthcare Corp., Dallas, has renewed a coverage agreement with Cigna Corp., Bloomfield, Conn., that will also pave the way for the system to set up accountable care organizations.
The multiyear agreement goes into effect on May 1.
The deal will allow independent physicians who work with Tenet's clinically integrated organizations and ACOs to participate in alternate payment models such as patient-centered medical homes, bundling and pay-for-performance, according to a news release.
Cigna has its own “collaborative accountable care” model, which is similar to an ACO but with a strong focus on high-risk individuals, the release noted.
