Does the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health honestly believe that physicians don't care what their patients do?
No rules needed on work info in EHRs
The NIOSH must think physicians are a particularly incurious bunch. The reality is that occupation is a particularly important aspect of the initial visit. My EHR (and almost all complete EHRs) already have an area to record occupation, workplace and many other similar details. Coming up with regulations regarding this small aspect of EHRs will actually define and thus restrict the EHRs' ability to record this information.
