Dr. John LaRosa is stepping down as president of SUNY Downstate Medical Center in New York, the center announced.
LaRosa served in the position for 13 years, according to a SUNY Downstate Medical Center news release. He plans to take a one-year leave, as granted to all SUNY presidents, and then return to his faculty duties, the release stated.
A search for an acting president is under way, according to the release. In the interim, Dr. Ian Taylor, dean of SUNY Downstate's College of Medicine and senior vice president for biomedical education and research, will serve as officer-in-charge.
