Healthcare added 32,800 jobs last month, an increase of 0.2%, to bring the industry's total employment to 1.43 million workers, according to new seasonally adjusted figures from the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics. The U.S. unemployment rate increased to 8.2% from 8.1%, with the country's economy adding 69,000 jobs in May. For the year that ended in May, healthcare hiring totaled 340,100 jobs, for growth of 2.4%. Hospitals added 4,500 jobs to the payrolls last month, a 0.1% gain, for overall employment of 4.8 million. During the year that ended in May, hospital hiring grew 2%, or by 92,900 jobs.

Physician office staffing increased to 2.4 million with the addition of 9,900 jobs last month, an increase of 0.4%. For the 12 months that ended in May, physician offices added 84,000 jobs, a gain of 3.6%.
