Dr. Lois Margaret Nora, interim president and dean of the Commonwealth Medical College, Scranton, Pa., was named president and CEO of the Chicago-based American Board of Medical Specialties, effective June 29. Nora, 56, will succeed Lloyd Morgan, who has been the organization's interim leader since Dr. Kevin Weiss accepted a senior VP post at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education in February. Nora, a board-certified neurologist, joined Commonwealth Medical College in May 2011 after serving as president, dean of medicine and professor at Northeast Ohio Medical University, Rootstown.

George Washington University Hospital, Washington, hired Barry Wolfman to be CEO and managing director. Wolfman was previously CEO of Providence St. Joseph Medical Center, Burbank, Calif., which is part of Providence Health & Services. He also is an alumnus of George Washington, from which he earned a master's degree in health services administration. GWUH is owned and operated by a subsidiary of investor-owned Universal Health Services, King of Prussia, Pa. The hospital's former CEO, Trent Crable, resigned Sept. 30, 2011, and is now executive VP and COO at Brooklyn Hospital Center, New York. … Steward Health Care System tapped Andrew Davis to be the president of Carney Hospital in Boston. Boston-based Steward said Bill Walczak left Carney Hospital this month after serving as president for about a year. Davis most recently served as CEO of Davis Regional Medical Center in Statesville, N.C. A spokeswoman for Davis Regional said Davis left the organization in January and it has since named Vince Cherry CEO. Davis' appointment at Carney Hospital is effective May 7. Steward also recently named Kimberly Bassett president of Morton Hospital, Taunton, Mass. Bassett has worked for Health Management Associates for 22 years, most recently serving as CEO of St. Cloud (Fla.) Regional Medical Center, where Lindell Orr is serving as interim CEO. In her new role, Bassett replaces Maureen Bryant, who was named president and CEO of Provena Mercy Medical Center in Aurora, Ill., in January. Steward did not provide ages for its new executives. … WellStar Health System, Marietta, Ga., named Kem Mullins senior VP and president of WellStar Cobb Hospital, Austell, Ga., effective April 23. Mullins replaced Randy Cook, who is now VP of WellStar's Behavioral Health and Medicine service lines. Mullins, 39, was previously CEO of Tenet Healthcare Corp.'s St. Francis Hospital-Bartlett, Memphis, Tenn. … North Texas Hospital, Denton, named Travis Roderick as CEO. Roderick, 46, replaces Judith Schiros, who held the position since 2009. Roderick previously was president and owner of Transformational Health Services, a consulting firm, and was CEO of Carrus Hospital System and the Community Specialty Hospital systems, Sherman, Texas. … SSM Health Care, St. Louis, promoted Michael Panicola to senior VP for mission and organizational ethics. Panicola, 41, previously was SSM's corporate VP of ethics and responsibility and has spent 14 years with the system, according to a news release. He joined SSM in 1998 as an ethics consultant. Panicola will communicate with local bishops and head mission integration activities for SSM, which is sponsored by the Franciscan Sisters of Mary. He also will oversee clinical and business ethics efforts, which include the company's corporate responsibility program. … As part of an ongoing restructuring process, SSM Health Care-St. Louis named Wayne Laramie VP of emergency services, a new position. Laramie, 48, served as executive director of emergency services for SSM's northern division and spent eight years as emergency department director at SSM St. Joseph Hospital West in Lake St. Louis, Mo. Laramie, a registered nurse, started his career in 1993 as an ICU and emergency department nurse. … Pittsburgh-based UPMC named Tyler Haney VP of digital strategy. In the newly created role, Haney, 36, will be charged with ramping up the digital presence of the health system using search-engine optimization, data analytics and other tools, according to a news release. Haney held a number of positions during more than a decade with Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston-Salem, N.C., where he most recently was director of interactive marketing and digital strategy. … Sean Tinney was named president and COO of St. Vincent's East, Birmingham, Ala. Tinney succeeds Todd Kennedy, who left the post recently and is now executive VP and COO of Providence Hospital, Mobile, Ala. Tinney previously was president of rural hospital operations for St. Vincent's Health System, the parent organization of St. Vincent's East and three other Alabama hospitals. Kidada Hawkins, the system's current VP of rural hospital operations, will assume Tinney's role on an interim basis, according to a news release. Before heading up the health system's rural operations team, Tinney was president and COO of St. Vincent's Blount, Oneonta, Ala. His age was not provided. … Beaumont Health System, Royal Oak, Mich., appointed Subra Sripada executive VP and chief administrative and information officer, a newly created position. He will focus on information technology, strategic planning and business development, marketing and public affairs, and corporate planning and the project development office, according to a news release. Sripada, 44, had been Beaumont's senior VP and CIO since 2010. Beaumont also recently named Dr. Samuel Flanders to another newly created position, executive VP of quality, safety and clinical effectiveness. Flanders, 57, will oversee Beaumont's Clinical Integration Councils. He joined Beaumont in 2008 as senior VP and chief quality and safety officer.
