Dr. Lois Margaret Nora, interim president and dean of the Commonwealth Medical College, Scranton, Pa., has been named president and CEO of the Chicago-based American Board of Medical Specialties, effective June 29.
Nora succeeds Lloyd Morgan, who has held the position on an interim basis since February, when the former president and CEO, Dr. Kevin Weiss, accepted a senior vice president post at the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education.
Nora, a board-certified neurologist, joined the Commonwealth Medical College in May 2011 after serving as president, dean of medicine and professor at Northeast Ohio (Rootstown) Medical University. Before that, she was associate dean of academic affairs and administration and a professor of neurology at the University of Kentucky (Lexington) College of Medicine.
In a news release, Dr. John McCabe, chair of ABMS' board of directors, said Nora's past work in such areas as medical ethics and education made her a good fit for the role.
