A doctor fatally shot a former colleague on his way to work Wednesday morning and then killed himself a short time later when police stopped him and ordered him to get out of his vehicle, authorities said.
The 32-year-old victim, Dr. Payman Houshmandpour, was found dead in his vehicle outside his home in the Philadelphia suburb of Voorhees, N.J., said Jason Laughlin, a spokesman for the county prosecutor. Giocondo Navek, 39, of Williamstown, shot himself after police stopped him on a nearby road, the spokesman said.
Houshmandpour, who was married and had a daughter, was a medical resident who worked at various locations for the Virtua health system, which has a hospital in Voorhees.
Virtua said Navek was a former resident who had not worked for the health system for a year to a year-and-a-half. State records showed he still had a residency permit.
