Ascension Health Alliance announced a partnership with an Indian-based healthcare provider to build a $2 billion health campus on Grand Cayman in the Cayman Islands.
Narayana Hrudayalaya Hospitals and Ascension said in a news release (PDF) that groundbreaking is scheduled for August. Phase 1, which includes construction of 140 beds, should be complete in early 2013. Construction will take 15 years and be broken into phases on a 200-acre site. The project will incorporate an assisted-living community, a biotech park, an educational facility and a tertiary-care hospital. Officials will seek accreditation for the hospital through Joint Commission International, the global arm of the Joint Commission. Once completed, the hospital could have as many as 2,000 beds.
