HCA's Ocala (Fla.) Health System has promoted CFO Randall McVay to CEO of the system (PDF), following the death in a plane crash of an executive the system had previously selected for the CEO post.
McVay, 49, has worked as CFO at Ocala since August 2010, and served as interim CEO since August 2011 after the former CEO Rex Etheredge retired. McVay's appointment as CEO is effective immediately, a news release from the system says.
Ocala Health System had previously announced that P. Allen Golson would become CEO of the system effective Feb. 20, but a spokeswoman confirmed that Golson died in a Jan. 27 plane crash while coming to the area to look for a new home. The Star-Banner newspaper in Ocala reported that Golson, 55, was piloting the twin-engine Cessna, which he owned, when it crashed just outside Ocala International Airport.
Ocala, owned by HCA, is made up of by 200-bed Ocala Regional Medical Center and 70-bed West Marion Community Hospital.
