HHS' Office for Civil Rights names chief of staff
Most recently, Choi worked at the American Red Cross, where she served as senior director for disaster partnerships. Before joining the American Red Cross, she was a law fellow and staff attorney at the Asian American Justice Center. There, she concentrated on Title VI—the section of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that prohibits discrimination based on race—and language access with a focus on healthcare, disaster and the courts.
"Her vast management, policy and constituency engagement experience will help guide OCR's important civil rights policy and outreach and stakeholder relations," Leon Rodriguez, director of the Office for Civil Rights, said in a news release about her appointment. "She will also be responsible for managing intra-HHS coordination and legislative and intragovernmental affairs." Choi's age was unavailable at deadline.
