For all those waiting for the release of the Stage 2 meaningful-use rules—and there was a room full of people doing just that Tuesday at the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society convention in Las Vegas—all CMS officials can say is, you'll have to wait some more.
Still waiting for something meaningful
“We've been working on the Stage 2 rules for months and months,” said Elizabeth Holland, director, HIT Initiatives Group, Office of e-health and Standards and Services at the CMS. “We want nothing more to talk with you about it.”
Unfortunately, the rumored release of the rules, which have been parked with the Office of Management and Budget since January for review, proved just that—rumor.
CMS has another meeting scheduled Wednesday on meaningful use, Holland said. But all she could do was hint that the rules, which have grown to 500 or so pages, might be released by then. “This is a betting town,” Holland said. “But I'm not a betting person.”
