George Carlis was named chief development officer at HealthSouth Corp., Birmingham, Ala., effective April 2. Carlis, 52 will replace Stephen Royal, 65, who is retiring at the end of March, according to a HealthSouth news release.

Carlis started at HealthSouth last year as vice president of development, while Royal has been chief development officer for three years, according to HealthSouth.
