OpGen, a genome analysis company headquartered in Gaithersburg, Md., has named Vadim Sapiro chief information officer. In the newly created position, Sapiro will be charged with overseeing the company's "bioinformatics applications, software, databases and information technology operations," according to a news release.

Sapiro's appointment, along with several others, comes as OpGen is expanding its offerings and developing its IT infrastructure, the company said.
Sapiro previously served as senior vice president of IT at SAIC-Frederick, a wholly owned subsidiary of SAIC. He was also director of the information systems program at the National Cancer Institute at Frederick.
