The sides negotiated a deal late Sunday night, said a spokesman for the St. Luke's parent, Continuum Health Partners. The New York State Nurses Association issued a news release on Friday outlining plans for a strike on Jan. 3. A Continuum news release (DOC) said union nurses are expected to vote on the deal by Jan. 5. Mt. Sinai also issued a brief e-mailed statement confirming their deal. The union failed to return phone calls seeking comment.
Nurses at both hospitals have been working without a contract since December 2010. In the news release announcing next week's planned strike, the union said had held 25 bargaining sessions with St. Luke's officials.
Talks between union nurses and a third New York hospital, 1,490-bed Montefiore Medical Center, are ongoing.
