The Indiana Health Information Exchange, Indianapolis, has named Dr. Josh Nelson its new chief medical officer.
Ind. info exchange names former WellPoint fellow CMO
Nelson previously was a physician executive fellow with insurer WellPoint, Indianapolis, according to an IHIE news release (PDF). At WellPoint, Nelson worked on assorted projects related to data and health outcomes analysis, technology and information system innovation, and engaging providers on issues such as accountable care organizations and medical homes, according to the release.
Nelson, a board-certified psychiatrist who also has a law degree, fills a position that has been open for almost two years, since Dr. Gregory Larkin was appointed Indiana State Health Commissioner in March 2010. At the IHIE, Nelson will lead implementation of a clinical messaging service for doctors, a statewide clinical informatics network and the Quality Health First financial incentive program, according to the release. His age was unavailable at deadline.
