HHS Secretary Kathleen Sebelius is scheduled to make an announcement about CMS' Pioneer ACO program on Monday with Dr. Richard Gilfillan, director of CMS' Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation, and Jonathan Blum, who serves as deputy administrator at CMS and director of the Center for Medicare. The announcement is planned for 1:00 p.m. ET in Washington.
Announcement slated on Pioneer ACO program
Earlier this year, CMS introduced the Pioneer ACO model for those healthcare organizations and providers that already have experience in coordinating care for patients. The idea is to allow these providers to move quickly from a shared-savings model to a population-based payment model on a track that is both consistent with, and separate from, the Medicare Shared Savings Program, according to the CMS Innovation Center.
