David Muntz, senior vice president and CIO of the Baylor Health Care System, has been named to the position of principal deputy at the Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.
Baylor's Muntz to be principal deputy at ONC
ONC head Dr. Farzad Mostashari made the announcement in an e-mail to members of the federally chartered Health IT Policy and the Health IT Standards committees Wednesday.
Mostashari said that Muntz, a 39-year veteran of the health IT field, and his organizations "have been regularly recognized nationally for innovation in IT." Muntz's "vast practical experience with electronic health records and strong leadership skills make him an outstanding addition to the ONC team," Mostashari added. Muntz will start at ONC on Jan. 9, 2012.
Muntz is finishing his term as a member of the board of directors of the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives, a professional association for healthcare CIOs and other IT leaders, and a fellow with the Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society.
