HCA announced it completed the roughly $198 million sale of 102-bed Palmyra Medical Center, Albany, Ga., to the Hospital Authority of Albany-Dougherty County, which in turn is leasing the hospital to not-for-profit Phoebe Putney Health System, Albany.
HCA completes Palmyra sale
The Federal Trade Commission had contested the sale as being anti-competitive, but last week lost an appeal in federal court to keep an injunction in place preventing the deal. The appeals court ruled that the hospital authority as the legal owner could knowingly enter into an anti-competitive deal, though the FTC has not yet publicly ruled out continuing its fight after the deal closed.
The agreement was first announced last December.
