SCAN Health Plan Arizona, Phoenix, named Dr. Raymond Cogen chief medical officer for the not-for-profit Medicare Advantage plan administrator.

Cogen, whose age wasn't provided, is an emergency-room doctor by training. He worked as a consultant for his own firm over the past six years, according to a SCAN Health news release. Before that, he served as vice president of Medicare for Empire Blue Cross and Blue Shield in New York. He also has been an associate professor of medicine at the Medical College of Pennsylvania and the University of Maryland.
"He is particularly knowledgeable about issues related to aging," said Elizabeth Russell, CEO of SCAN Health Plan Arizona, in the release. "And he shares SCAN's commitment to senior health, wellness and independence."
SCAN serves Arizona's Maricopa and Pima counties and has 15,000 members.
