The advanced-payment model would provide up-front payment of some financial bonuses offered to accountable care groups. To qualify, applicants must be one of two types of accountable care organizations. The first must have less than $50 million in annual revenue and cannot include a hospital. The second type must have less than $80 million and include critical access or Medicare low-volume rural hospitals.
Applications will be accepted between Jan. 3 and Feb. 1 for accountable care organizations seeking to begin April 1. For ACOs that hope to start July 1, the advanced-payment application will be accepted March 1-30, which is the same deadline for ACO applications.
The Center for Medicare and Medicaid Innovation will post a template of application questions online in mid-December and will release the formal application Jan. 3, a CMS spokeswoman said in an e-mail.
