The Arkansas Department of Human Services, Little Rock, named Andy Allison director of the state's Division of Medical Services (PDF), which runs the state's Medicaid program, according to a news release.

Allison, whose age was unavailable from the state, is currently the executive director of the Division of Health Care Finance in the Kansas Department of Health and Environment, overseeing Kansas' Medicaid program, Children's Health Insurance Program and state employee health plans, according to the release.
Allison is scheduled to start Dec. 5, replacing Eugene Gessow, who resigned to be closer to his family, according to a spokeswoman for the Division of Medical Services.
Arkansas' Medicaid program had a total operating budget of $4.5 billion in the fiscal year ended June 30, with federal revenue paying for about $3.5 billion of the total, according to the state's Medicaid program overview report (PDF). In addition, the program had 785,446 enrollees and 770,792 beneficiaries, according to the report.
On Nov. 7, the state's Medicaid program launched an electronic health records incentive program (PDF) for medical professionals and hospitals.
