Michael Bukosky, CEO of University of Louisville (Ky.) Physicians, has been named chairman-elect of the American Medical Group Association, and—when he takes over in January 2013—he will become only the fifth nonphysician to lead the AMGA in the organization's 61-year history.
AMGA names new officers
Before joining the 600-physician ULP group, Bukosky, 58, served as executive vice president and chief administrative officer of the Carle Clinic Association in Urbana, Ill.
In January, current Chairman-elect Dr. Robert Nesse, 60, CEO of the Mayo Clinic Health System, takes over as the leader of the Alexandria, Va.-based AMGA, whose members include 400 medical groups in which about 117,000 physicians practice. At that point, current Chairman Dr. Scott Hayworth, president and CEO of the Mount Kisco (N.Y.) Medical Group (and husband of freshman GOP Congresswoman Dr. Nan Hayworth), becomes immediate past chairman.
Other officers on the new AMGA board include Dr. Howard Graman, CEO PeaceHealth Medical Group, secretary; Dr. Linda Leckman, CEO of Intermountain Medial Group, treasurer; Donn Sorensen COO of Mercy Clinic, at-large member; and AMGA President and CEO Donald Fisher.
