The joint venture of Duke University Health System and LifePoint Hospitals has completed its second hospital deal, and third deal overall, according to a news release.
Duke LifePoint completes Maria Parham deal
Duke LifePoint Healthcare now owns an 80% interest in 102-bed Maria Parham Medical Center, Henderson, N.C.; the local not-for-profit that owns the hospital retained a 20% interest. DLP and Maria Parham did not disclose the exact financial terms of the deal. The proceeds of roughly $30 million after paying off the hospital’s debt will be used to set up a local healthcare foundation. Maria Parham owed about $46 million on its bonds as of June 30, according to its bond disclosure for the quarter ended on that date.
The Duke-LifePoint joint venture has completed three deals, including the purchase of cardiac catheterization assets, within North Carolina. Last week, the joint venture signed a nonbinding memorandum of understanding for its first deal outside the state, agreeing to acquire an 80% interest in 86-bed Twin County Regional Hospital, Galax, Va.
