Gail Rosenberg, assistant vice president for public relations, says the news program is the first of several programs the system plans to produce to fill the gap left by shrinking traditional media outlets and the shift by its customers from those outlets to websites and phone apps, including various forms of social media. “Our relationships with traditional media are particularly strong, and generally I am very pleased at the coverage that we get through traditional media,” Rosenberg says, “but again, the number of our customers who are using traditional media as their primary news source is declining every day.”
The program is meant to cover local and national healthcare policy issues. The first episode covered a dispute between Carolinas and Mecklenburg County, N.C., regarding a contract for psychiatric services, and the episode the week of Aug. 29 looked at the potential effects that the debt-ceiling deal might have on hospitals, Rosenberg says.
Carolinas built its studio as part of a new building to house its corporate services, Rosenberg says. She hopes to add a satellite uplink and more sophisticated production equipment down the road. Rosenberg did not know the cost of the studio broken out from the overall cost of the building.
