The CMS has extended the possible date of Parkland Health and Hospital System's termination from the Medicare program to Sept. 30 from Sept. 2 in order to give state surveyors more time to complete their reports, according to a letter to Dr. Ron Anderson, CEO of Parkland, Dallas (PDF).
CMS pushes back Parkland's possible termination date
The 672-bed Parkland received word Aug. 9 that it was under threat of losing its status as a Medicare provider, and after submitting its plan of action (PDF) on how it would correct the problems by an Aug. 20 deadline, state inspectors returned for follow-up this week with the expectation that Parkland's Medicare status would be affirmed or denied by Sept. 2.
Also this week, Parkland announced that Anderson would be stepping down as CEO on Dec. 31, under terms of a five-year contract.
