Retail clinic operator MinuteClinic announced that it has opened its first convenient-care facility in the Charleston, S.C., metropolitan region and has plans to open seven more on the state's coastline by early 2012.
MinuteClinic moves into Charleston
MinuteClinic is a division of Woonsocket, R.I.-based CVS Caremark, and the new facility is located in a CVS store in downtown Charleston. The other new clinics will be located in the Charleston area as well as in metropolitan Hilton Head and Myrtle Beach, according to a MinuteClinic news release.
MinuteClinic, which has 600 locations in 26 states and the District of Columbia, opened its first South Carolina facility in 2008 and now operates 17 clinics within the state, with the others located in the Columbia and Greenville-Spartanburg markets.
MinuteClinic facilities are run by nurse practitioners who generate electronic records of patient visits; the records can be sent upon request to the patient's primary-care physician.
Last month, MinuteClinic announced a deal with Indiana University Health through which IU physicians will serve as medical directors for 19 MinuteClinic facilities in Indiana.
