IBM Corp., Armonk, N.Y., announced it has reached a definitive deal to acquire i2, a fraud- and security-software company with pharmaceutical-industry, finance and law-enforcement clients. Terms of the acquisition, which is expected to close before the end of the year, were not disclosed in an IBM news release.

Based in Cambridge, U.K., and McLean, Va., i2 will operate within IBM's software group after the acquisition, according to the release. I2 also operates offices in Ottawa, Ontario, and Canberra, Australia, and serves 4,500 customers, according to IBM.
